I have an area rug that is100%cotton pile made in India. It really needs some cleaning, but it says not to dry clean or wash. Do not clean with any liquid, no detergents or no stain removers. What can I do it is so beautiful please help.

Dear Evelyn: Sounds like they want you to throw it out and buy a new one. With no way to clean it, maybe you need an old fashioned “rug beater”. As I remember it, it was a piece of rattan or wicker that they used to beat the dirt out of the rug. Contact the place where you purchased the rug. I’m sure they’ve had this problem before.
