I have a really good idea for a clothing line, (well to me anyways). The name alone will appeal to many. The problem is, I have absolutely no clue on how to start my line and I do not have much capital. So how do I go about starting my line, who do I have to talk to etc. How do I patent my name. Any way any information you might be able to give me would be a great help.

Dear Mike: Having a “catchy” name is NOT a reason for starting a clothing business. However, following your dream, is always a good idea. Plan on attending some adult education courses in a local college. Try to find some that are geared towards soft goods, specifically apparel. There are no easy answers and no short cuts here.
