I recently made a costume out of a special faux fur called “velvet fur”. I ran a scrap of fabric though the washing machine in cold water with some other laundry and it came out okay. (It was labeled dry clean only which is why I tested a scrap first.) But when I washed the costume with liquid fabric softener it ruined the texture of the fur. (I didn’t put it in the dryer.) I tired re-washing it without fabric softener but it still looks bad. Is there anything else I can try to restore this costume? Thank You for your help.

Shawn: I sorry, but you should have followed the directions on the label. If it says Dry Clean, then DRY CLEAN.
Now, consider remaking the costume or wear it the way it is.
