Re-dyeing silk satin?

Hi!
I have a 100% silk satin gown that I am wondering if I can re-dye. It is a bright orange now. Would it be possible to either dye it a dark brown or soften the orange?
Thanks!

You could try dyeing this, but keep in mind that silk will shrink & twist. In addition, the finish to the silk satin will change. Dyeing is a warm water process. Also, any trim, such as zipper & thread, will probably not change in color. I wouldn’t risk it, but if you want to experiement, you will need the reactive dyes available at Dharma Trading Co, ordinary table salt, & soda ash. If you want to inquire of a professional dye house, ask Sherry at http://www.fabricdyeing.com.
    best of luck! Jennifer

Is there a way to either soften the color or bleach it out?
