I love white slip-covered sofas but am expecting my first child in a couple of months. Any idea what fabric (or fabric treatment) would be best for repelling dirt and stains when the wee little one starts walking around? Have there been any recent developments in furniture fabrics for stain resistance, as there have been for men’s clothing?

Dear Zhene: It will be some time before the little one starts walking around. By that time, you can change the slip covers again. Try getting them with a Scotchgard finish. Enjoy the baby and don’t worry about the slip covers. They can be removed and cleaned. Good Luck, Andy
