Buy Custom Draperies

We are looking at buying custom draperies and would like to know the difference between 100% Polyester and a 55% cotton 45%Polyester blend. Both sales people are telling us their fabric is the best! What fabric would actually make the best overall draperies??? James: First of all, there is NO best, when it comes to fabrics. All things being equal that is, if you like both fabrics the same, does the window get a lot of direct sunlight? Will the companies give you a guarantee or warranty on the fabric? I’d personally go with the cotton blend. Of course, this is a personal choice. Don’t think that the draperies will last forever. They are for NOW. Hang them and enjoy them. Is Microfiber Long-wearing?

Is microfiber a long-wearing fabric for a couch? How durable is it? Thanks. Lonny: Depending on the use and abuse of your couch, the microfiber in and of itself, should perform fine. Happy Decorating and Good Luck, Andy

Upholstery Best For Children And Pets

Andy, I need to know which sofas(upholstery) are the best for toddlers and large pet dogs? I have heard that the micro-fiber material is good. We really live on our sofas and need something that will hold up well. Thank You, Sheila Sheila: WOOD is the answer. But if you are having kids and dogs, consider that what you are buying now, won’t last, no matter what the fabric. At some point you will want to redecorate, anyway. So go out, and buy what you like. Train the dogs to stay off the furniture, and teach the kids, not to eat on the furniture. The kitchen is for eating. Happy Decorating and Good Luck, Andy

Looking For A Chenille Sectional

I am looking to buy chenille sectional but know nothing about that fabric. It doesn’t sound like a durable fabric. Can you tell me if this would be a good purchase? It’s for a family room. Thanks, Ann Ann: My druthers is NOT to use chenille for a family room. While it is a nice soft fabric, I don’t think it can take the abuse of a family room. Happy Decorating and Good Luck, Andy

Re-Upholster An Old Recliner

Andy I live in Alaska and have a favorite rocker recliner and would like to get it reupholstered. Many of the web sites I have looked at say its cheaper to buy a new one than it is to have it reupholstered. Is this true? The recliner it’s self is still in very good shape but it is a ugly gold/yellowish color it was made in the late 70’s early 80’s, has foam inside, the back slides up and out and buttons all over it the chair is very heavy and sturdy. Lisa Lisa: It is true that it is usually less expensive to buy new than to reupholster your old one. However, you may be able to find someone nearby to do the work for a good price. Shop around. Cat Hair

Andy, I am considering buying a living room outfit in microfiber, what do you think about that material, is it durable, will it stain easily and will cat hair come off easy by just wiping it off or will it embed into the material? Cathy Dear Cathy: CAT HAIR. It gets into everything and stays there forever. I hate it. Microfiber will stain, especially when beer or hot chocolate is spilled on it. We get more questions about how to remove stains from Microfiber than we do on almost any other subject. That being said, load the web site www.carbona.com into your favorite places. This company is a stain specialist, and even if you don’t need them now, between the Cat and the Microfiber, you will very soon. Happy Decorating and Good Luck, Andy
