What fabrics are safe to use around face/mouth?

I am doing research on fabrics that work best and are safe for use over the face/mouth.  Are there fabrics that should only be used, or ones that should absolutely not be used?  Is there any special treatment process involved if it is used around the mouth/face? Any ideas who would produce these types of fabrics if applicable?  Thanks!

    Hi Megan,

I am going to need more info on your purpose. Wet, dry, how long is the fabric going to be around nose or mouth? Reason being is that any time you put a fiber around the nose or mouth, it needs to be a fabric with a stable continuous polymer rather than a filament. Read history and anything to do with respiratory diseases associated with the garment district workers in New York in the early 1900’s. The term Mad Hatter exists for a reason as well as a number of others. This is a very interesting topic, anything you can tell me will help me hunt down better fabrics, as well as make for interesting reading. BTW Micro fibers have some interesting little problems but I need to re-find my sources before I quote anything.
